T.D. Jakes is the founder of the for-profit T.D. Jakes Enterprises, through which he employs his aptitudes as author, songwriter and playwright. A prolific author of more than 30 books, T.D. Jakes has numerous best sellers, including, Before You Do: Making Great Decisions That You Won’t Regret (Atria, 2009), and Reposition Yourself (Atria, 2008), both of which reached No. 3 on The New York Times Best Sellers list. Reposition Yourself remained on the list for 23 weeks, and spent 20 weeks on USA Today’s best sellers list. In January 2009, Sony Pictures released Not Easily Broken, Jakes’ second novel to have been made into a motion picture. Not Easily Broken ranked No. 9 nationally during opening week. His theater company, Touchdown Concepts, created and produced plays that were popular throughout the nation. Furthermore, Jakes’ music label Dexterity Sounds, has produced many music projects, including the GRAMMY® Award-winning A Wing and a Prayer.

Bishop Jakes is also founder and senior pastor of the legendary 30,000-member Dallas-based church, The Potter’s House. In a short number of years, his motivating messages have reached the world through best-selling books, award-winning music, critically acclaimed plays and record-breaking events. Named by Time magazine as “America’s Best Preacher,” Bishop Jakes’ message of healing and restoration is unparalleled, transcending cultural and denominational barriers within the church and beyond.
Because of his keen ability to impart knowledge, Jakes has been called upon to relay wisdom to U.S. presidents and international leaders. His astuteness has also positioned him to appear as a guest on Dr. Phil, The Doctors, Oprah, CNN, and MSNBC; and has garnered profiles in such notable publications as Forbes, The Washington Post, Essence, TIME, Ebony and D Magazine. In 2008 Jakes was a correspondent for MSNBC during the 2008 presidential elections.
Few people can claim awards and honors as broad in scope as Jakes. In addition to holding both a Quill Award and Grammy Award, he is the recipient of several NAACP Image Awards, including the President’s Award and the Best Independent or Foreign Film Award. In addition, Jakes has served as speaker at many prestigious events and ceremonies including the historic 2009 Presidential Inauguration in which President Barack Obama asked Bishop Jakes to serves as homilist.
In Empowerment Efforts
A devoted advocate for reaching prison inmates, The Texas Offenders Reentry Initiative (TORI) was initiated in 2005. TORI is a program designed to help former offenders transition back into society through substance abuse education, family and marriage counseling, pre-employment counseling, and life skills training. The program also assists former offenders with accessing state and federal support programs and housing.
Through the Metroplex Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), Jakes is able to make an impact on community business development. Endeavoring to remedy social and economic disparities, Jakes founded the MEDC in 1998 to bridge socio-economic voids existing in urban America. A nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, MEDC works to impact the lives of individuals and families residing in historically underserved communities through the implementation of programs established under the umbrella of its core initiatives. The MEDC has sponsored home ownership conferences, a credit and money management course, youth mentorship programs, and an entrepreneurial training series. In Humanitarian Service
T.D. Jakes is known for wanting to help those who struggle to help themselves. In an effort to give back to society, T.D. Jakes founded MegaCARE, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to worldwide philanthropic work. As visionary of MegaCARE, Jakes has been able to positively change and affect lives across the globe. The organization provides services to the global community in order to eradicate hunger and improve the quality of life for others. MegaCARE is devoted to strengthening communities through humanitarian efforts, medical assistance, educational resources, and by empowering individuals to achieve a better life. MegaCARE has ventured to Europe, Africa, India, the Americas and other countries to provide medical facilities, water systems and homes. Much needed financial, medical, clothing and food donations have also bettered the lives of thousands in need worldwide.
T.D. Jakes is also the Senior Pastor of The Potter’s House, a multicultural church with over 30,000 members, located in Dallas, Texas. T.D. Jakes and his wife of nearly 30 years, Serita Jakes, live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. They have five children and two grandchildren.
