Theatre

In 1999, TDJE produced its first touring stage production, Woman Thou Art Loosed, which as written and directed by Tyler Perry. The stage version of Woman Thou Art Loosed toured nationally for two years, appearing in virtually every major market in the United States. Following the success of Woman Thou Art Loosed, TD Jakes again teamed with Tyler Perry on the production Behind Closed Doors in 2000. TDJE produced its third live theatrical production, Cover Girls, in partnership with Clear Channel Entertainment in 2004.

Films

In partnership with Reuben Cannon Productions, TDJE produced its first film, Woman, Thou Art Loosed! The Movie — the winner of the 2004 Santa Barbara International Film Festival for Best American Film. The film was released in theaters in October 2004 and opened seventh nationally in its opening-weekend box office (the first film since Spielberg’s Amistad to open in the top 10 when opening on only 400 screens. The DVD of Woman Thou Art Loosed, released by Fox Home Entertainment, sold more than 1 million copies.

TDJ Films second project, Not Easily Broken, the first in its partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, wrapped filming in summer of 2007. The movie—starring Morris Chestnut, Taraji P. Henson, and Jennifer Lewis, and directed by Bill Duke— opened in theatres nationwide in January 2009, as the #6 film for the weekend.

In 2010, TDJ Films again partnered with SPE, along with Our Stories Films, to produce Jumping the Broom, a hilarious wedding comedy starring Angela Bassett, Paula Patton, Laz Alonso, Mile Epps and Loretta Divine. Jumping the Broom will be released in theaters nationwide on May 6, 2011.

In March 2011, TDJ Films, in partnership with Codeblack Entertainment, will start production on the thriller, On the 7th Day: A Woman Thou Art Loosed Film.
