Glinda's Story
It took Glinda Bridgforth years to realize her financial situation was out of control. On the surface, this Detroit native had success that some only hope for: she was an Assistant Vice President for a major California bank, managing a $90 million unit with 22 employees. But away from the office, Bridgforth was living paycheck-to-paycheck and nearly bankrupt with $50,000 in unsecured debt. In 1988, she experienced what she now calls the "Three B's": Breakdown, Breakout, and Breakthrough. She left her 12-year career with the bank, a troubled marriage, and started attending financial and personal healing seminars.
As Bridgforth recovered from her financial crisis, she began connecting her financial problems with her own emotional and cultural history. To help everyone—regardless of ethnic background, or gender—overcome barriers to their financial freedom, she founded Bridgforth Financial Management Group, a financial counseling practice with clients across the country. Bridgforth's company specializes in a holistic approach to cash flow and debt management, which integrates emotional and spiritual elements with practical money management techniques. She helps her clients to examine the emotional and cultural issues at the root of their spending patterns and to heal their bank accounts.
In the years since she started her business, Bridgforth has become a sought-after financial expert in the African American community and beyond. Glinda examines the issues unique to African American women that often result in bad spending habits and poor financial health. Bridgforth is a regular contributor to Essence magazine and a former featured writer and "Money Talk" chat show host for America Online, Inc. Her financial insights have been featured in the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Money, Jet, Black Enterprise, Heart and Soul, and Ebony. Bridgforth is a frequent guest on television with appearances on Fox News, PBS and CNN Flipside and is a regular guest financial expert on a weekly radio talk show in the Detroit-metro area. She has introduced thousands of people to her work through speaking engagements at conferences, seminars, and universities across the nation. Bridgforth lives in Detroit, Michigan.
