The True Beauty Of A Person

With the light inside, nothing can stop you.

Poet Khalil Gibran wrote, “Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.”

It’s true that our real strength is more than our outward apparel and adornment.  Our beauty resides in the resiliency of our souls.

Yet, in the U.S. so much emphasis is placed on one’s personal appearance; our culture elevates youth and impossible standards of beauty.  It’s an alarming fact that more than “...90% of girls-15 to 17 years-want to change at least one aspect of their physical appearance, with body weight ranking the highest.”

We must combat unrealistic notions of beauty and attractiveness by looking beneath the surface in our interactions with others.

The true beauty of a person does not come from the name brands wrapped around our skin, but rather from the deep sense of self that radiates from within.

No matter how much we fix and fuss about our external appearance, without a doubt, we are our most beautiful when we are authentic.

One’s authentic beauty comes from the power within.

During a riveting TedTalk, model Melissa Roshan shares how she found her power beyond the external.  She discusses how she “got tired of seeing value in her photos but not seeing value in herself.”

What do you see when you look in the mirror?

Like Melissa, we must work to expand our ideas of beauty.  Real beauty lies in strength, in overcoming our inner struggles and in how deeply we have met ourselves.

A beautiful smile is made even more lustrous when it’s heartfelt and above all--real.
